Fifty and two were the years destined to the men so that they could walk in two pairs of opposites, and in the end, become a sole being: the Maya.

Every fifty-two years the births of Haab (365-day path of the sun) and the Xokiin (sacred register of 260 days) are aligned. We renew the fire and the deities remember their commitment to sustain life. They are also fifty-two years to be traveled, transiting baptism, marriage, duty to the community and death. For this reason, the path is made up of fifty-two spaces, four sections of thirteen spaces, each under the influence of one of the directions as well as one deity.

And then our first mother-father was created; the arms and legs made from maize dough. Only maize entered the flesh of the four beings that were created our ancestors.

The gods wanted to see if these men of maize were worthy of the earth, and requested that they adore and feed them with offerings and sacrifices. And it is said that when this was done, the sun rose to the heights of the heavens and descended into dusk.
